Taco Tuesday!

DID SOMEONE SAY TACO TUESDAY?!

We get asked a lot about family-friendly go-to meals. Here at RevvFitness, we are alllll about making health and fitness attainable and simple. A protein, a complex carb (which includes a veggie or two), and a fat is the basic components of a healthy well-rounded meal. With that said, a protein, a carb, a fat, and a veggie doesn’t have to be: chicken, rice, broccoli, and olive oil every night. Although we totally enjoy those foods, most kids would label that meal “boring”, and we run the risk of losing the parent-of-the-year award if we circulated that meal too often. But we can absolutely pull off having some version of Taco Tuesday almost every week!

 

Two facts about tacos:

  1. They’re delicious (don’t you dare try and fight us on this one!!)
  2. They’re SO versatile!Their versatility makes it pretty easy to please everyone in the family. Pick a protein of choice…anything goes- from beans, to tofu, to chicken, to ground meat, to pork, to fish. Next load up your vegetables of choice, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, olives, grilled peppers and zucchini. Want it on a hard shell? Soft shell? As a burrito? Nachos? Lower carbs? No problem make it a salad. Better yet, set up a taco bar and let the family and kids fix up their own with their personal favorites (kids are often much more likely to clear their plate when they’ve made it themselves). Then don’t forget to top it off with your favorite toppings (guacamole, cheese, sour cream, salsa, or greek yogurt)!

Here’s the kicker though–

Taco seasonings can be a total sodium blow…and not to mention loaded with msg (you know the stuff that makes it so delicious in the first place, then kills your insides slowly). So, we thought we’d share how to make your own, because we value our health (and our parent-of-the-year status!).

IT’S SOOOOO EASY!
1 tbsp chili powder, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp crushed pepper flakes, 1/4 tsp dried oregano, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1 1/2 tsp cumin, 1 tsp black pepper, and 1 tsp Himalayan or sea salt.

Mix well. Feel free to quadruple the recipe and store in a cool dry place for future use.
